With the FTW Transcriber, the simplest way to boost the volume of a quiet file is to use the software program Equalizer APO, which is bundled with the FTW Transcriber since version 4.5. To check if you have Equalizer APO on your computer, press the Windows key then start typing the word “Equalizer”. If you have Equalizer, you will see it appearing in the results as Equalizer APO Configuration Editor, as shown below:

Once Equalizer APO is installed and is appearing in your results as in the screen above, click on it and you should see this:
To boost volume, turn the Preamplification dial (shown by the red arrow) clockwise using your mouse, or increase the number in the Gain box to a number such as 5, 10 or 15. Note that this will boost the volume across all applications on your computer until you turn it to 0 again.
