The FTW Transcriber’s hotkey system enables you to carry out certain functions conveniently without moving your hands away from your keyboard. However, sometimes the default keys that the FTW Transcriber uses for these functions are unsuitable, e.g. they may conflict with another application on your computer. For this reason the FTW Transcriber enables you to move those functions to different keys that do not interfere with your work.
On some keyboards, the “F” keys only work as hotkeys if you press the “F lock” key.
You are advised to move those functions to keys that you do not habitually use when transcribing, such as the keys on your numeric keypad.
To change hotkeys, click Settings and then click the button Change Hotkeys, then follow the instructions.
On some computers, after you click the Change Hotkeys button and then Change, you may see the “Press new key” menu appear for a split-second, then disappear. The message disappears because your computer thinks you’re pressing a key. This issue may occur on computers that have both buttons and a touchscreen, and some users have found that if they use their touchscreen to click the Change button, the process works fine.
If you do not have a touchscreen, the issue may be occurring because of a mousepad on your keyboard, as is often the case with laptops. In that case, try positioning the cursor over the Change button and then press the Enter key on your keyboard, then the “Press new key” message should appear.
