Insert current time automatically

This script enables the current time in your location to be AUTOMATICALLY inserted into your transcript at regular intervals. (This is different from manually inserting the current time, which you can read about here.) The setup process is fairly simple but the steps must be followed carefully. First you must download and install AutoHotKey version 1.1.37.02, which is small and quick to install. Download it from here and double-click it to install. Then carefully follow the instructions below, which will create an .ahk file. Download the .ahk file, and, using the guidelines at the foot of this page, place that .ahk file in the appropriate folder on your computer.

Note that this feature will not insert the current time mid-word - it will insert only after you press space, period (full stop) or Enter.

If you are not typing when the current time is due to insert, it will pause and wait until you begin typing, then it will insert the current time at that moment.

Make your settings below to configure the appearance of the time. Your changes will reflect in the Preview window.

Download .ahk file

Once you have downloaded the .ahk file, place it in any folder on your computer EXCEPT your Windows Startup folder. When you begin transcribing and you want the current time to be automatically inserted, double-click this .ahk file. It will then work until you press Ctrl-Shift-Q or log out of Windows.

Note: do NOT place the .ahk file into your Windows Startup folder - if you do, it will run constantly and will insert the current time into everything you type, including emails and other text.
